Relive the StartupBus journey with StartUp Podcast!
Last year, award-winning reporter Eric Mennel joined us on the New York StartupBus in its journey to New Orleans. I was the conductor of the bus, and I am glad Eric got to witness the beauty and absurdity of a journey that can only exist in the 21st Century.
It was hard to describe the strangeness and euphoria of seeing a group of wild, focused, talented, and nervous adult humans, with their glowing screens filled with maddening amount of magical abstract symbols, committed to an errand sitting in a steel box traveling at 70mph on the edge of a cliff of the majestic Appalachians for 72 hours, simultaneously with and without an apparent purpose in their determined search for meanings… Yet, Eric seemed to capture the essence of it all effortlessly.
After months of editing, he delivered this labor of love right before Christmas and has been the talk of the town (at least the StartupBus town) ever since. Before you commit to the entire series, here’s a short teaser to give you a taste of its brilliance:
Released on December 11, 2017, the StartupBus miniseries by Gimlet Media dropped one episode a day every morning at 5 a.m. (and I woke up early every morning like a child on Boxing Day, except it’s 5 Boxing Days in a row), with each episode chronicling each day of the journey. You can relive the journey with our riders as if you were riding with us.
What’s ever better: The StartUp team made a special theme song just for the series, complete with illustrations for each day (It’s funny to see what others think what StartupBus looks like).
Without further ado, check out and enjoy the complete episodes right here!
Don’t you wish there will be a Day 6… or more? (Tell Eric about it.)
If you’re a subscriber of the podcast on iTunes, be sure to leave a great review for the series! There will be exciting news about StartupBus in 2018 coming up very soon, so stay tuned and don’t miss the next bus!
