StartupBus.Accelerate in Europe
The last two weeks we held a few StartupBus.Accelerate events in Europe. StartupBus.Accelerate events are meant to help you give new insights and accelerate your way of thinking.
The first one happened at Co.Station Brussels and was a satellite event of Europe’s biggest open-source software conference FOSDEM. We had a few panel discussions about the impact of open-source software on tech companies with people like Jessica Rose (DreamFactory), Kris Buytaert (Inuits, Cfgmgmtcamp, …), Nils De Moor (Woorank), Charles Bailey (Bloomberg) and Lien Van Den Steen (DataCamp; they’re hiring developers).
Ofcourse, StartupBus alumni from London and Brussels met up for some moules-frites and other Belgian culinary things like beer and chocolate.
Last week we visited Italy to talk about StartupBus at a few Startup Europe Week events organized by BIC Lazio. For those who don’t know, Lazio is the region around Rome. We visited the local ecosystems of Viterbo, Latina and Ferentino and talked about what StartupBus is and why we organize it.
It’s cool to see that even in “rural” Italy entrepreneurship is actively supported! In Viterbo we tested the augmented reality city tour (think a Google Glass for both eyes with navigation, photo and video overlays). In Ferentino we felt the duality between optimism and pessimism about the impact of technology on society. Yes, some jobs will disappear but other jobs will be created to create a better life for us all. We met young people, and we met older people. One of the latter kind is Maurizio De Nardis, founder of DenSolar Italy. He invented a new kind of walls and roofs that generate enough energy to construct passive buildings and is looking for funding to scale internationally.
