9 free Meetup Spaces in Berlin

Berlin is the city of meetup and startup events. In January, I summarized some calendars and newsletters you have to keep in mind to promote your event. But how to find the right location if you get started and just set-up a new event series? Here a few spaces that offer space for free for selected community events: But hurry up, they are booked out soon!

hub:raum (Schöneberg) hosts easily 100 guests, has a huge stage, is equiped with a sound system including up to four microphones, a bar and enough and — most importantly cosy -furniture to host anything between a small gathering, a big meetup or a small DemoDay. If you need a breakout room, they also offer their so-called “Kitchen” — a smaller space in the same building.

Unicorn (Wedding) is a new space, up the road from Factory and close to Ahoy!. Unicorn has a classic vibe, you will find no frill there. It is close to Mitte and in the evening you can ask to host events for free. During the day, the coworkers occupy the space. PS: Please check the address! Unicorn has two locations: a small cafe (great coffee) and a bigger space.

Space Shack in Schöneberg will offer different rooms for different occasions. You have to get used to the maze though. It is spacy and very flexible. The host, Daria, is a gem. I am sure the space will host many event in the future, so hurry up and reach out to them if you plan to organise an event soon. Save-the-Date for their big fat opening party on March 8th!

JuggleHub in Prenzlauer Berg is run by two energetic ladies: Silvia & Katja. The space combines coworking and childcare services in a beautiful building in Wilhelminian style with great ceilings. The biggest conference room can host up to 40 people — the right size to have intense networking after some talks.

If you are into mobility or finance, you can also reach out to Volkswagen Financial Services in Mitte to host an event. In Volkswagen Forum at „Unter den Linden“, they can open up their space for up to 100 people for selected meetups. You can stop by anytime to check out the venue since it is an exhibition space during the day. The best thing: As co-host Volkswagen Financial Services might sponsor drinks and bretzels!

An absolut hidden treasure is the space of Infosys in Backfabrik: “The Innovation Fabrik”, which is also the first co working / incubator for AI startups in Berlin (Mitte). Right behind SOHO House the space is easily reached via public transport. Its host Julien spent many hours decorating and creating a great atmosphere. The space is equiped with kitchen, fridge, dishwasher etc. but also a Microsoft Surface large screen, beamers, sound system, cameras, software for big data & AI and a surprising and relaxing interactive sandbox. In the evenings the room can be used for free for some selected meetups. It can host up to 70 people easily and Infosys can sponsor food & drink.

In January 2017, Migration Hub Network opened a new coworking and event space at Spreewerkstätten in Mitte, close to Alexanderplatz. Behind „Alte Münze“, the space combines huge theater style rooms with smaller spaces that are rough around the edges and remind you how some of the old buildings looked after the wall came down. If you are into social entrepreneurship and believe in impact, you should check it out. You will find a great venue and like-minded people.

#OpenSpace is a new location powered by Commerzbank & other corporates. It opened in January 2017 and easily reachable by public transport as it is right at U-Bahn Bülowstrasse. It is literally open and spacy with beanbags and no walls — 2,000 qm waiting for events. For selected meetups the venue can be booked for free.

Just 500 m from Hauptbahnhof, you can find Amapola, a small space that opened in 2016. It is no over-crowded by meetups yet, but located super central and run smoothly. It is worth a look if you plan a small gathering. In case you wondered: Amapola (pronounced: [amaˈpola]) is Spanish for “poppy”. :-)

PS: Some more locations you have to check out: Ahoy!, MEOW, Agora — and of course WeWork, Mindspace, Rainmaking Loft and Betahaus. Also browse the awesome database of SpaceBase, where you can find and book rooms for selected meetings or complete days for 10 to 250 Euro per hour.
