The Startup Hunter Diary — A Month Long Trip Around Europe — Episode 11
Do you Amsterdam?
A Startup Orgy
I got to spend the weekend in Amsterdam with an old friend. The city is wonderful and we had good fun going out.
Helene joined me this morning to hunt in Amsterdam for week.
There was no other place for us to start with than B-Amsterdam, the largest incubator space in Europe. It’s like a chocolate shop but with start-ups instead.
We first went to meet with Startup Bootcamp. We loved them everywhere with been so far, so we definitely wanted to hang out with more of them. Their focus is on Smart city start-ups, though in the coming months they are opening 2 new programs, 1 of them focusing on FinTech. This will make them the only Startup Bootcamp with 3 programs, also giving insights on the attractiveness of the city.
We just had to go a few stories down to find other people to meet with. We stopped by the Team Academy. It’s basically college but for entrepreneurs. And it’s absolutely (insert swearword) amazing. We got to meet with some of their students to explain to us what they were doing and they even intro’ed us to more amazing people. That’s it, we loved it. Keep in touch and work with us…
There is no such thing as a break in the Startup Hunt. We had to rush to meet with Startup Amsterdam. A government backed project to support and promote startups in the Netherlands. I got the intro from a friend I made in NY who was working for them.
They are THE #1 people to know if you want to be an entrepreneur in the Netherlands. During our meeting, they invited Anouk, director of the Capital Week, to join us. This is the biggest start-up event in Amsterdam, gathering investors and start-ups. We got along so well, we got invited. Unfortunately it’s next week, so I am not sure we will be able to make it. But we will for sure look to work together in the future.
At Startup Amsterdam, they recommended us many things to do and people to meet with while we were there.
So we went to visit the Startup Orgy co-working space. To be honest we weren’t so sure about what to expect from that impromptu visit. Surprise, surprise, once again, the people were amazing. We got to talk for a while with the founder of the most successful crowd equity platform in the Netherlands. He gave us a lot of insights and many recommendations. Thanks Tienko.
That’s it for today, Helene wants a beer, and I never say no to a beer.
If you are in Amsterdam and want to meet us, please reach out, it will be a pleasure.
Hop on the train of the most exciting startup trip ever made, and travel with us! It shall be fun.
