Coca Cola Challenge: BOOM

We are Alike team. While participating in the Start-up Lab, we accepted the Coca Cola challenge. What the company really wanted was to create an app, powered by Coca Cola, which doesn’t advertise the product directly, but in a subtler way. The target group. is 13–19 and the values that we tried to promote were three: Awareness, Live, Love. We chose this project because we find the aimed group challenging and interesting, as we still feel close to them and we can possibly understand their needs and problems.

More specifically, the main objective of the challenge was to make teens feel cool in a unique and fun way through an interactive app. Teens’ actions should lead to rewards, which will include Coca-Cola products, discounts or coupons.
As a team, we started talking about the problem, which we had to deal with. We thought that it would be more efficient to divide the target group of the challenge (13–19 years old), into two smaller groups, 13–16 and 16–19. At this point, we would like to clarify that the age 16 is transitional, so we included it into both groups. On one hand, the first group deals with several problems, such as having the tendency to mimic trends that do not suit their age. Also, they come across limited options of entertainment due to school liabilities. Lastly, they desire to seem cool through certain activities or actions. On the other hand, 16–19 year-olds have limited leisure time and face greater school requirements and loads of studying time. They are also looking for new ways to have fun, as they get bored doing the same activities over and over.

To sum up, this project bonded our team more and we gained knowledge that we used in a more practical way during the building of our app. It made us research more so as to understand the needs of teens in order to adjust the app activities and make our final product attractive for them. What we keep in mind is that we should make the teens keep using our app!
