Have you caught yourself vibing to a song while not understanding a single word in it?

Well… if yes , you are not alone! Almost every summer a new foreign song goes viral and while everyone seems to know it nobody really understands the meaning behind it.

And since google translate doesn’t really help you’re left with no answers to what this super catchy song you sing all summer really talks about.

This situation gave birth to the idea of Honeytunes.

An app that gives you all the facts that you need about any song. All you have to do is connect it with the music app of your choice (Spotify, apple music, YouTube, soundcloud etc) and while the song is playing you’d be able to get information about any unknown word/slang, meanings behind the song, facts about the singer and much more.

That way you’ll be able to enjoy any song to the fullest and get to experience it in a completely different way.

The person we based our idea on is our persona, Maria, a 21-year-old student, who studies at a university in Athens. Due to pandemic, she started listening to a lot more music resulting to her finding many foreign songs she found herself enjoying.

She is trying to find the lyrics in order to catch the meaning of the song and understand it to the fullest. Even though she is researching information about the songs, she still doesn’t understand fully the meanings behind them.

At that moment, an application that she had heard of recently comes to her mind, that is called: honeytunes.

Honeytune’s main competitor is Genius lyrics. Genius lyrics is a music platform that provides lyrics, facts, stories and articles about music and artists, but also seeks engagement from its users. Genius has some of the functions that we seek to have, but also for that we had to find gaps and opportunities to improve our start up idea and to differentiate it.

So what we came up with is that we need to provide even more information and cultural facts behind the lyrics, collaborate with even more platforms and not just Spotify, focus more on the cultural side of each song and portray the ways in which users can understand and appreciate any culture and actually learn from it. Honeytunes also aim to include more songs not only the popular ones and also have songs from more countries.

Honeytunes introduces the application not only as an entertainment platform, but also as a tool for many purposes.

Regarding the financial part, the costs that Honeytunes estimates to have are those of its activities and the staff that will be needed as the brand evolves and the promotion of the application. Our main goal is not to have a significant revenue, but to provide a quality service. Our revenue streams, will be later on the subscriptions and the income from the advertising as the company grows.
