Our Startup journey idea…

After a demanding semester with many challenges, me, Maria, Xenia and Thanos managed to try our best regarding our last project. Our special Guest for Ad&Pr Lab Dominica Skreta followed by our professor Betty Tsakarestou guided us from the beginning giving us instructions about the Startup idea that we had to create. This idea was based on Audio Innovation. We thought of many ideas and many scenarios, what could be a startup and what is considered “catchy” these days? After many hours of brainstorming, Thanos suggests to us a good idea pertaining mostly to Gen Z and the night life of Athens and to be more specific it would facilitate those who are introverted and those who are not really patient. The name we gave to our project is Personal Dj and otherwise PDJ and according to our Canvas “Personal Dj is an app where users get to send their request directly to the DJ in real time”. Then all together with many gatherings and video calls we started collecting the pieces and giving life to our vision. In conclusion, our project came to an end. We finally collected all the pieces and we represented our idea on June 13th at Panteion University to our Startup lab mentors, Dominica Skreta and Betty Tsakarestou.

So what is the “Personal DJ”?

Personal DJ is an app where users used to send their request directly to the DJ in real time. It is an effective way to select your favorite song or even choose to replay a song when you lose it. Is an app that does not appear in Greece and it has only a few worldwide competitors such as in Chicago, California, Los Angeles and Australia. Thus, it is a very profitable business opportunity as the Greek market is basically non existent.

How it works ?

You open the app and make a profile

You request the song of your preference with one click

The DJ will notice your request through the app’s notification and will play it

If you want you can tip the DJ through the app to get your song in front of the queue

You have the chance to expand your social scene. You make a profile and chat with others making a request at the club.

Problems

Personal DJ solves a lot of problems around music that most young people encounter while going out in nightclubs and bars. We conducted a questionnaire in which more than 80% of those who answered, agreed with the problems that we faced. Without Personal DJ you might have missed your favorite song while you were in the bathroom, or you waited the whole night for it to play but it never did, or maybe it didn’t play for long enough. Socially, you didn’t get the chance to talk to a person you liked at the club/bar and now you don’t know how to contact them. From the DJs side, you might be searching for a way to connect more with your audience or get more tips. As a club/bar you might want some new ways to bring in more new people that have not been at your club. Personal DJ solves all of the above, as it let’s you request a song to the DJ, according to the club’s music genre, and have it play based on a queueing system. If you want to listen to your chosen song ahead of the queue, you can tip the DJ. You can also chat with those who are also making requests through the app at the location you’re at. DJs get a chance to make some extra money through the night from tips and get their name out there, as it will be next to the store’s name on the app. Every club/bar that registers at our app, will be shown at the map, with its music genre listed, therefore getting more awareness.

Conclusion

Overall, creating Personal DJ was a very fun and productive process, and a great introduction to the world of start-ups. Also, the feedback we got before pitching the final idea was extremely enlightening, as it made us realize factors that we had not taken into account previously. After taking it all in, we decided to add more features into the core functions of the app that would make it more attractive to the public. Ultimately, we do think that Personal DJ could potentially be a success story of the greek market and revolutionize the way greek clubbing works.
