SoB🐝asy’s take on diversity and inclusion in the space of Audio Innovation Startups

In our journey as members of the AD&PR Lab of Panteion University, we were given the unique opportunity, courtesy of Antenna Music, to think of an idea within the grounds of audio innovation that will show that the audio workspace is -and has always been- ready to welcome diversity and inclusion in its forces.

The team took on this fun yet challenging task by starting an extensive market research process to grasp the situation in the global market, while also staying in touch with the Greek market, trying to find every opportunity possible. The categories that were heavily focused on were: The Music Market, the Radio Market, the Podcast market, and the AI Market. Within these categories, no stone was left unturned. We investigated many of the world’s most recognizable companies and startups within the audio industry, saw their willingness to be open to diversity, and were inspired by them. We also delved deeper and found genuinely inspiring, yet relatively unknown to the worldwide public, audio startups such as Pride Radio, Voiceitt, and many more.

We were surprised to see a sizable lack of Greek presence in the audio market regarding diversity and inclusion. Almost non-existent, to say the least. No Radio Stations about diversity, minimal references to it in Podcasts. After seeing what the rest of the world was capable of, we saw Greece pale in comparison. So, we decided to take a step to change that for the better. Our idea is the creation of “Voice to Diversity’’, a web radio station where people will speak about topics related to diversity, whether it’s about people who are part of the LGBTQ+ community, people with disabilities, and so on. No topic related to diversity will be left untouched.

That’s all we have to say for now. We still have more to say so if you’re interested, we’d be glad for you to join us on this journey!
