Smart Wheels - Solution and Next Steps

SOLUTIONS

As a team we decided to provide a solution to the disabled in order to improve their quality of life concerning their lack of knowledge of accessibility in places. Our plan is to create a high-tech wheelchair that would include α navigator system.

This system will be refreshed and is going to make possible the fact that there will be automatic transport to accessible places while parking will be monitored. The navigator will be integrated in it’s system which will guide them to the best routes, stores and services that can provide specially shaped ramps for physically disabled people and interesting activities for them.

The parking monitoring system, in particular, will serve as to inform if parking for the disabled is accessible and if not, the car that has parked will be removed. This definitely rests the disabled assured that accessibility in places could be made without the need of ramps since a whole network of automatic cameras with sensors will be placed in every parking lot for people with disabilities in order to stop the illegal parking.

Moreover, “Smart Wheels”, will optimize the best set up according and based to a person’s disabilities and the seat will be customized. We are not specifically addressing to the mobility impaired ones but also to the paraplegic/hemiplegic/quadriplegic.

What is also provided in the “Smart Wheels” wheelchair is WIFI and other services such as an umbrella, to make sure that the disabled person during bad weather conditions will be protected. Regarding the WIFI, the cellphone will be used as a remote control so as to control the wheelchair, the navigator and further knowledge regarding the parking.

Next Steps

We consider our “Smart Wheels” project highly ambitious and as a follow on strategy we believe that it would be challenging to expand beyond local network to a wider range such as global network. What we also have agreed as of our next step is that part of our income would be given to research concerning diseases that are linked with mobile disabilities (e.g. Multiple sclerosis) .

We are glad for having gained such an experience from our challenge!
