This fall, Apple could introduce the 5G iPhone equipped with Qualcomm’s X55 modem for the first time, thanks to renewed cooperation between the two companies after years of litigation. However, according to information published in the American business magazine Fast Company, Apple is considering developing its own 5G antenna, as it still seeks to limit its dependence on Qualcomm, and does not want to rely entirely on the manufacturer’s products.

The main problem with this is the size of the Qualcomm QTM525 antenna, which according to Fast Company is too large for the thin shape of the latest iPhones. For this reason, Apple is supposed to be developing its own antenna system that will better match the design of Apple smartphones.

Whether Apple will introduce its own 5G antenna in the 2020 iPhone is not known for sure. Most likely, the company will consider the release of phones in two versions: a thinner one with an Apple antenna, and a thicker one with a Qualcomm antenna.

According to experts, Apple’s cooperation with Qualcomm is likely to be short-lived. The apple giant went to the world only because its partner Intel could not provide 5G chips in the required time frame. As Fast Company says, the real relationship between the two companies is still quite tense.

Apple will also acquire Intel’s 5G chips, despite the latter’s delay. They will serve as the basis for developing our own 5G antenna for future iPhones, iPads and other devices.
