Robotics startup Figure has unveiled the latest version of its humanoid robot, Figure 02. The previous version of the model, Figure 01, was released last year.

A video released by the company shows the robot’s ability to smoothly move its limbs, bend its knees, and walk slowly on the floor with its legs bent. In the background, several other robots carry things, push a cart, and operate industrial equipment.

The company has partnered with OpenAI, which enables the model to support ChatGPT. Figure 02 is equipped with speakers and microphones to hear, recognize, and reproduce human speech, allowing the robot to effectively interact with people in a work environment. In particular, it can be given instructions, and can comment on its actions.

The startup has already begun to implement the robot in a real environment – in particular, a few months ago the company announced a collaboration with BMW, within the framework of which robots are tested at the automaker’s factories and integrated into workspaces together with human personnel.

TechCrunch portal notes that the main difference between the new model and the Figure 01 version is the improved technology of the robot’s communication with people due to “a complete redesign of the hardware and software.” The new product is also equipped with six RGB cameras, a model for recognizing non-verbal gestures, a more powerful processor, and improved arms with 16 degrees of freedom.

The company did not indicate an exact time frame regarding the public deployment of Figure 02, but at the same time hinted at the possibility of its potential use outside of warehouse work – in particular, the range of its capabilities may even allow the robot to be used in everyday life.
