Apple has announced a public launch of the updated version of iOS – 17.3 in the coming week. In particular, its new features will include enhanced data protection in case of smartphone theft and the ability to create shared playlists in Apple Music.

The most anticipated feature of the updated iOS is an additional level of data protection in case the device is lost, stolen, or third parties gained access to the password. Thanks to it, photos, videos, bank data and other personal information of the owner will be unavailable to thieves even when iPhone is unlocked.

To enable the feature, you need to go to Settings > Face ID & Passcode > Stolen Device Protection.

Once enabled, the option will require the use of Face ID or Touch ID to verify the user for activities such as accessing passwords or iCloud passkeys, using saved payment methods in Safari, and accessing the Wallet app.

Also, when the new feature is enabled, you will have to undergo double verification via Face ID or Touch ID when changing confidential data, including creating a new Apple ID password, disabling the Find My Phone function, changing emergency contacts or your own phone number: the first verification will occur immediately after changing the settings, the second – after an hour. However, this rule only applies to the use of a smartphone in “unusual” locations; in “usual” places (home, work, etc.) double verification will not be requested.

Apparently, this innovation is aimed at solving a serious problem that The Wall Street Journal reported a year ago: it turned out that before stealing smartphones, many thieves track down their victims in public places, thanks to which they could later quickly change the password on stolen devices and gain access to confidential information.

Another feature awaiting iOS 17.3 users is collaborative playlists in Apple Music. Initially, they were supposed to appear in the first version of iOS 17, but Apple postponed its implementation until 2024. This option allows Apple Music subscribers to create playlists with other users, such as friends or family, to share their musical discoveries. In addition, compositions can be assessed using emoji reactions.

To activate this feature, you will need to click the person icon in the playlist, after which a link to add a user will appear. With access to the playlist, you can add and remove songs, and change the order they play. Only the playlist administrator will be able to remove users from a shared playlist or even disable the joint adding of tracks feature.

Another new features include Unity Bloom wallpapers for iPhone and iPad, the ability to connect to hotel TVs via AirPlay (if the TV is equipped with support for this technology) and more detailed display of data about devices linked to Apple ID.
