A few days ago, Google’s annual developer conference took place, at which many interesting developments and new features were presented. Particular attention this year, of course, was paid to the development of products based on artificial intelligence – according to the TechCrunch portal, the word “AI” was mentioned more than 120 times at the conference. Let’s take a look at what AI features and tools Google plans to develop in the near future.

Generative AI in the search browser

The company will use generative AI to sequence and organize results for search queries. Depending on the query itself, AI can generate news summaries, summaries of social media discussions, or lists of suggestions. First of all, Google plans to use AI to improve search results and provide “smart suggestions” – for example, if the user is looking for vacation spots, restaurants, books, recipes, etc.

Gemini Live AI assistant

The company continues to improve its Gemini chatbot – its new interface called Gemini Live was announced at the conference. The updated chatbot can respond more “meaningfully” to users’ speech – for example, it has learned to better adapt to different styles of speech or pause the conversation to look for answers to clarifying questions, as well as respond to users’ surroundings using photos or videos taken on a smartphone camera (in particular, answer questions about things or terrain that are in the camera’s field of view). Gemini Live is scheduled to launch later this year.

Veo Video Generator

Veo is a new AI model from Google that can convert text into good quality (1080p) video clips that are just over a minute long. The tool can create videos in a variety of styles, including film effect, landscape and slow motion, and also make changes and adjustments to already created videos. The model does a good job of embodying the effect of camera movement and various visual effects, which contributes to the realism of the videos.

The generator is also capable of creating a video from a static image.

Ask Photos Feature

Ask Photos is an experimental feature to bring the Gemini assistant to Google Photos, which is planned to launch this summer. With its help, users will be able to conduct a broad search through their photo collection using queries in natural language – for example, you can ask to find “the best vacation photo.” In this case, Gemini will determine the best photo by analyzing lighting, blur and lack of background distortion, along with recognizing geolocation information and shooting dates to produce a suitable result.

Gemini in Gmail

Gemini is also planned to be implemented in Gmail – it will help to perform deeper searches, summarize a stack of letters along with attachments and generate emails using keywords, as well as perform more complex actions – for example, processing product return requests via email. Additionally, Gemini will be able to extract information from emails and insert it into spreadsheets, such as event dates or product prices.

AI protection against spam calls

Another AI-powered feature will alert users about potential spam calls. The Gemini Nano-based tool is planned to be implemented in a future version of Android. A specific launch date for the feature has not been announced, but it is known that it can be disabled at the user’s discretion.

AI Models for Education LearnLM

The company has developed a new set of AI models, LearnLM, designed to assist in the educational process. The models are trained on data from educational research; they help teachers come up with interesting lesson topics, generate educational quizzes, and search for on-demand materials. Like other Google AI tools, LearnLM is built on top of Gemini.

Updated AI model Gemma 2

In June, the company will launch Gemma 2, the next generation of its Gemma AI model. It will have 27 billion parameters (the first two standard models had 2 billion and 7 billion parameters, respectively). Google has not yet revealed more details about the updated tool.
