Turkish Startup Ecosystem in 2016

Although we have had a lot of political turmoil and a lot of terrorism in Turkey last year, the startup investments have not decreased. In 2016, $ 67.2 million was invested in 124 funding rounds.

The Turkish ecosystem has shown a rapid development since 2016, but the annual investment amount has not exceeded 100 million dollars. When compared to regional players, the greatest activity in South East Europe and the Middle East region (apart from Israel) seems to have taken place in Turkey.

When we look at the types of investments, the most investment is made in the seed stage. The number of Series A is very low, and the investment in Series B is almost zero. This may be due to the fact that Turkish startups do not have much global thinking and are trapped in local markets.
