If you care to test your patience, I suggest mucking around with transcription software. Getting started can be a slow, tedious, and expensive process.

There’s training software to recognize your voice, mastering the stopping and rewinding of your media files. Or trying to invent your own language of commands to supposedly speed work along. No fun. It’s like trying to teach someone how to drive stick. A whole lot of small, unpleasant lurching.

Jotengine offers an appealing alternative. You simply upload your audio file, and let Jotengine do the work. They use machines first and then humans to produce your finished transcripts — that’s matching audio and text.

The service transcribes at a flat rate of $1.50 per minute of audio and $0.50 per minute of audio for captioning, which is absurdly cheap. And what about level of accuracy you ask? Check out the demo. Jotengine works.

Probably conversations happen all the time of great value to your company — meetings, private talks, interviews, even stream of conscious brainstorming with yourself. Jotengine provides a practical tool for capturing that valuable data and putting it to greater use.

Co-Founder Paul Cretu said on Product Hunt, “My co-founder @skandermz and I built Jotengine to make our conversations more productive. Remembering things is hard, and taking notes is no fun. Anyone who’s sat down and transcribed a file knows how time consuming it can be. We found existing options out there slow, expensive, and counterintuitive to use.”

“That’s why we built Jotengine, a faster, simpler transcription service with productivity in mind.”

Now, if you do enjoy transcription or have someone on your team that’s a whiz, Jotengine does offer DIY tools so jobs can be done faster and easier. These tools include keyboard shortcuts to control audio and insert text, and auto-rewind that lets you stay in your flow. This smart feature plays for 10 seconds, pauses for 5, then rewinds 5 and continues. It’s enough so you can keep pace without all the jarring stops and starts.

Cretu adds, “Most transcripts, human or machine, are rarely perfect. Lots of services advertise 98% accuracy, but it’s the last 2% that wastes your time. The transcript editor lets you quickly listen, search, and edit audio so you can get back to doing your real work faster.”

Accelerated productivity. Greater value for your content. Hard to find fault with that when the price is right. Learn more about how Jotengine works or register for a beta account by visiting the startup’s website here.
