Words of wisdom: if you don’t do it, nobody else will

One of the things you realise pretty quickly when you go from working in a large company or team to working for yourself is that there is nobody to pick up your slack. It is a sobering thought that if you don’t do something then everything stagnates and nothing gets done.

It sounds obvious but is a great mantra to repeat to yourself when you are struggling for motivation. It’s like giving yourself a bit of tough love. You are the engine of your business, you supply the momentum, you have the ideas and you are responsible for it all, success or failure. If you are ill or a bit tired, things won’t move (but do rest if you are ill, I don’t want your Mum complaining to me).

It’s for sure one of the toughest feelings, not having the day-to-day support of others, but it’s one you have to get comfortable with and will make you a more resilient.

So, if you want your business to go anywhere I suggest you get your head down and pull your finger out (well that could definitely be misconstrued…).
