Chris realises he forgot to confirm his fantasy football changes 5 minutes after kick-off, Rooney better come good…

There is a war going on out there, you might not realise it, but it is taking place in the workplace, at home and even in your head. It is the war against perfectionism. But who’s going to come out on top?

There is no denying that there is something very satisfying about producing a perfect product, piece of work or essay, but given the time your customers will spend looking at any of these things, is it valuable to eek out those marginal gains?

The answer is… probably not. Focus on creating or completing something that satisfies the objective but nothing more, then move on. Only when you have sufficient time to dedicate to perfecting things should you do so. In the early stages of your business you will have a hundred more impactful things you can do with your time so focus on them first before refining everything else.

That is not to say you shouldn’t make note of the things you feel you can improve as people do notice the little things (generally it only matters to the minority), but it might be that you can use other services and resources to polish your product while you focus on the more important stuff.

Now stop dotting those i’s and crossing those t’s and move on.
