We are about to publish Q3–2018 edition of the State of Maritime Startups and Scaleups infographic, it’s really close now!

We entirely overhauled it to make it the most informative and valuable for the companies featured, industry stakeholders and investors.

  • We clearly identified Scaleups and segmented companies in 6 areas of Application.
  • All the companies that grew beyond Scaleup into established companies were removed.
  • We are now featuring only companies that explicitly authorised us to put them on the map and became part of our community.

These changes brought the total number of companies featured down to 109, yet we are proud to say that these are the most committed innovators in Maritime who want to gain the best exposure to the industry!

In a thread on LinkedIn I got an interesting comment about the number of startups in maritime globally, quoting 700+ applicants to maritime acceleration programmes.

How many Maritime Startups and Scaleups are really out there?

In our experience respondents to calls for applications are a very diverse bunch of startups often totally out of scope.

I would think that at the moment the total number of startups globally which are not “just an idea” and which are within the scope of Maritime is at most 200. Many of these in Asia, yet to be discovered.

But I would estimate this number to at least double every year. Or more, depending how good we as a Maritime startup community are able to make our sector’s opportunities known to a broader tech audience. It is the responsibility of all the connectors across Maritime and the Startup community to make the 2 worlds talk and understand each other.

It’s the role of the large organisations willing to innovate, of the local Maritime and innovation hubs, of the organisers of industry conferences, and above all, of the incubators and accelerators whose objective is exactly to fill this gap.

Go PortXL go theDOCK innovation hub, go PIER71, go ZEBOX, go all maritime-startup initiatives taking shape around the world!

Startup Wharf is the global hub of innovative Maritime Startups and publishes the quarterly “State of Maritime Startups | Scaleups” infographic, including all maritime startups out there!
