The Captain’s Table is a Global Start-up competition aimed at the maritime and logistics industry. This is a grassroots led initiative founded by actual maritime professionals who also run the YPSN network (www.ypsnhk.com). We took inspiration for the competition from the TV programs Dragon’s Den and Shark Tank in which business ideas are pitched to a panel of investors.
We believe there is no shortage of innovation but what is missing is a platform to bring the innovators and end users together. Our aim is to identify and communicate the problems our industry faces and then engage with startups to see how or where technology can provide the solutions. The purpose of our competition is to connect innovators with the industry, showcase their ideas and offer a chance for investors to discover the ‘next big idea(s)’.
We are inviting applicants to submit ideas on five main areas: Platform and Software as a service, Deeptech, Fintech & Insuretech, Education and Environment and Sustainability. The entries will be shortlisted throughout the year with the five best ideas being presented at a live final where they will compete to win a coveted seat at the Captain’s Table.
Apart from a cash prize of US$25,000 YPSN has put together a solid ecosystem including investors, mentors, workshops, technology partners, access to incubators, flights, accommodation and more to support the winner on their journey after the finals. It will be held at the Asia Society on Tuesday 19th November 2019, during Hong Kong Maritime Week.
