2014… naught, nada, void, empty, the Maritime sector seemed to be a safe haven from digital disruption. Flexport was already around, but it was just a small company trying to do the impossible… digitalise freight forwarding. Today they are almost a unicorn, with a valuation of $800m.
In the same timespan, Maritime woke up to the new winds of disruption! 2015 saw the inception of PortXL, the first Maritime Accelerator in Rotterdam. And then more and then more! In just 2 years Maritime Accelerators became a hot topic, and now London is the home of Startup Wharf.
