In my previous articles (Part 1, Part 2, Part 3) I have talked about why I think that Smartphones will replace PCs, soon. And I have talked about this modular vision because I believe it’s gonna happen anyway. And I’ve also seen that Samsung, Microsoft, and other companies are already going this way. If Apple will do so, what it’s gonna look (and feel like)?

As I mentioned before, modern day smartphones are overtaking the desktop’s dominance as the primary gateway to the Internet and for media consumption. Smartphones have become users’ most important device. It looks like the only reason to use a computer is for work-related tasks. And yes, even I prefer my powerful PCs and Macs to get the job done, especially with my UX and UI design projects, not to mention heavy graphics and video editing, which you can do with the iPad Pro, but there are some things that you want to do comfortably while you sit in front of your computer. So can a Modular device from Apple change that all by transforming iPhone / iPad into a MacBook Pro?

But even without a modular device from Apple, we see now that Apple’s new A11 chip is a beast! It’s better at multi-threaded tasks and thanks to the second-generation performance controller, The A11 harnesses all six cores simultaneously.

“The iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and X are equipped with a six-core A11 chip, which Apple says brings some major improvements over the A10 chip in the iPhone 7. The chip features two performance cores and four efficiency cores.

Early Geekbench scores for iPhone X and iPhone 8 devices suggest that not only does the new A11 significantly outperform the A10, it beats the A10X Fusion in the iPad Pro and it is on par with the chips in Apple’s latest 13-inch MacBook Pro models.” Source: Macrumors

So with these powerful devices in our pockets, what’s next? a modular device by Apple? Let’s see… I can’t wait :)
