Meet the 2024 Publishing Team!
The minds behind the madness…
Before we dive into another jam-packed year of Statecraft, we thought we’d help you all get acquainted with some of the minds behind the madness of this year's editing team. So, without further ado, meet:
Devika
Hey there! I’m Devika and I’m one half of the VP’s for Pubs this year! I am beyond excited for the year ahead and for all that pubs has to come (as I’m sure I’ve already unpromptedly told most of you by now). This year at Statecraft we’re bringing you some really diverse content, of special interest is some satire, poetry and maybe even a tasteful gossip column (watch this space guys). Perhaps more than the content though I’m just excited to get to mess around in pubs meetings with our beyond killer team. A bit more about me, I’m a 4th year, terrified at the prospect of graduating, and doing no-major because being decisive is not in my repertoire. I hate Brisbane public transport, love $2.50 mates rates coffees (even if alt milk makes it $3), am ambivalent about uni readings and think PPE is undoubtedly the sickest degree, due mainly to the endless shenanigans. But mostly, I can’t wait to see all your articles in our inbox!
(email: publications.uqppes@gmail.com or messenger literally any of us)
Harry
Hey gangsters, I’m thrilled to introduce myself as the co-mogul of the PPE media empire for the year. Together, we’re poised to push boundaries, spread our radical and biassed viewpoints, and tarnish our reputation beyond repair — all in the name of influencing the next generation.
With our dedicated team of sub-execs, we’re ready to take on the media landscape with audacious ideas and minimal accountability. Here’s to hoping that by the end of the year, we’ve earned ourselves a spot on every blacklist and a cozy little corner on the ASIO watchlist, all in the spirit of shaking things up and doing it as a team!
I like my coffee black and my philosophy continental. Purrrrr
Ryann
Hi! I’m Ryann, one of the editors on the publications team this year! I’m a fourth year PPE student majoring in politics, who is hoping that she’ll finesse her way into a job come the end of this year (someone please hire me x). I have a knack for talking anyone’s ear off if given the chance, especially if you mention my exchange semester, op shops, UQ parking, or my next crochet project. So, I figured it was time to put some of those (more coherent and relevant) thoughts on a page. Tragically, I also have a knack for writing every assignment I’ve ever done at the last minute… but deadlines are a state of mind. So please, write some articles for us so that I can maintain this belief.
I’m super excited for the future of Statecraft and what this year will bring for our lovely little team!
Clare
Yo people. My name is Clare, and I’m an editor for our lovely little publishing horde at Statecraft. I am a student of PPE majoring in economics, chiefly because I am intimidated by social interaction and math requires less thinking.
I’m here because I enjoy raining criticism down on our society from my ivory tower of self-righteousness — no joke, I’ve found literary rants on social injustice to be more effective than counselling and alcohol combined. The world is a scary place, and we might as well take a chance at shouting into the void, to see what differences our voices might make. Get some practice in, chuck us some articles, and get involved.
PPE is superior (fight me) because of its cohort — we are engaged, passionate, and a little unhinged, and it is a fearsome combination the world is in need of. It’ll be a joy to see a snapshot of our capabilities and insights in Statecraft this year.
Dan
Hey I’m Dan. You might remember me as Editor-in-Chief of Statecraft and Pubs VP from last year. Because of a pact I made with Satan, I’m back again this year! Only I’ve been stripped of all responsibility. Now I’m free to write half-cooked post-structuralist hot takes and to tear your article submissions to shreds.
Elliott
Hey! My name’s Elliott. I’ve done enough icebreaker introductions in my tutorials this week so I should be able to ace this. I’m a second year PPE student majoring in politics, and my favourite pastime is playing minesweeper in Archive. Although I originally joined the pubs team so that someone would hold my writing deadlines to account, I’m beginning to get really excited about how this year is going to turn out! I love listening to people yap about what they’re interested in, so I’m really looking forward to helping people publish pieces on topics they’re really passionate about.
Aside from publishing (and editing!) Statecraft and remembering to hand in all my assessments, my main aim this year is to remain vertical for the entirety of Soiree. It may appear a tall order, but at one point every important change seemed impossible.
Eloise
Hi, I’m Eloise. I am the definition of your stereotypical 19-year-old girl in every way except for the fact that I consider reading about current affairs one of my favourite hobbies. My favourite colour is pink, I just saw the ERAs tour and I exclusively wear skirts and dresses. I am a second year and majoring in politics, which has been one of my great loves since I was a kid and the only thing I could watch on TV after dinner was the ABC news. I simply loved the drama of it. The Bronwyn Bishop helicopter scandal is a core memory for me.
I am super excited to be on the pubs team this year. Really looking forward to reading and editing lots of interesting articles — there’s nothing I love more than hearing or reading about people's passionate opinions!
Clancy
I’m an econ major but I love philosophy. More specifically I love arguing, and my articles are usually gonna be about something I wish I could have a good argument about.
Please write a letter to the editor on my articles, I’ll respond, and we can be penpals. If you disagree with what I write, I advise you to imagine me looking as smug as possible while I make my point and let that stir you up into submitting your response to statecraft.
(But also, I promise I’m not actually smug please be nice ❤)
Sample opinions:
UQ parking should cost more.
Uni degrees should cost more (except nursing and teaching).
Beer should cost more.
Petrol should cost more.
Plane tickets should cost a LOT more.
Basically, they taught me too much economics and now I think everything needs Pigouvian taxes.
Luca

Hi, I’m Luca Bisogni. You might remember me from such PPE lore as the UQPPE facebook page and the 2023 Society Launch Party. Interested in understanding and overcoming unjust hierarchies be it along lines of social identity or material relations. Always happy to chat about your thoughts whether they become articles or not.
Phoebe
Hey guys, I’m Phoebe and just like everyone else on here, I study PPE and am an editor of the fabulous magazine Statecraft!! I’m a fourth-year student this year (absolutely tragic and terrifying) and have opted for no major (absolutely awesome and fun 😎). I actually joined the pubs team with no prior knowledge of it or its functions (aside from the fact that Devika told me it was cool, and I should join). Whilst it was perhaps a bit of a gamble to trust her on that I can now say with confidence that pubs and Statecraft are indeed super lit and I am so, so incredibly excited to be getting to work on the epic articles that I know you’ll all be sending in at the rate of lightning so soon. Public policy is my fav topic ever so can’t wait to hear all your insights and epiphanies about this or literally anything else.
P.S. please somebody else go watch Stateless, Pine Gap, and/ or Secret City they are awesome Australian political tv shows and I want someone to talk to about them 😭
Hayley
Heyyy! I’m Hayley and I’m super keen to be a part of the pubs team this year! Here’s some random stuff about me. I’m really into fitness and strength training, I love reading about history/culture/politics/anything…, and I have lots of tea rituals (basically, I just love tea! And sharing it with my friends and family). A lot of my favourite music comes from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s (yeah, I’m a bit of a grandma).
I’m also not afraid to do things that are more hands-on — I’ve done some work as a trade assistant and have worked in electrical for a while doing an apprenticeship (part-time, ofc).
I’m a bit all over the shop.
I’m in my third year of PPE doing a pols major. I started in PPE because I wanted to study the disciplines purely out of interest, and I was hoping I could use my degree to get involved in advocacy and the humanitarian field.
I joined the pubs team because I wanted to get more involved in PPE related issues and discussions… And I also was keen to get more involved with the society in general, I can’t wait to see what this year brings!
Emma
Hi friends!! I’m Emma (one of the many) and I am very stoked to be part of the 2024 editing team! I am keen to see how Statecraft can diversify its scope of topics, and hopefully stir some significant conversation about how we can move forward as a society. It is so encouraging to hear the new and innovative thoughts coming out of our cohorts- I don’t doubt that UQ PPE alumni will shake up the world (and hopefully boot out some sleepy Joes from the APS).
I am in my final year of PPE, majoring in politics, and I am super interested in international inequality, development & justice. I spend my time engaging in some spaces that sound a lot cooler than they are; 180 Degrees Consultancy, Befriending Brisbane, UQ Academic Misconduct Board and the refugee resettlement policy branch of an INGO, but to be honest with you, my real passion is Taylor Swift and my dream job is beach (i’m looking to marry rich, so pls hmu if you know a guy). I will most certainly talk your ear off about why a commune would be a good idea, how much I love surfing (but can’t actually surf) and my raving hatred for the US electoral college.
I love PPE for many reasons, but most obvious is the chaotic chats. Super stoked to ponder over your incriminating thoughts & spicy opinions — send them through!
