Statecraft: The Personal Meets the Political

Statecraft blends reflection and polemics with public affairs. Facilitated by the UQ Politics, Philosophy, and Economics Society, we seek to mirror the society’s commitment to original thinking across the fields of — as the name would suggest — politics, philosophy, and economics.

We host discourse which transcends the partisanship and repetitive rhetoric of everyday politics and amplifies the insights of students whose perspectives cover a wide variety of disciplines. However, you don’t need to be a student of politics, philosophy, or economics to write for us! We here at Statecraft believe that insight comes from a variety of backgrounds.

Submission Guidelines

  • We only accept original drafts which have not already been published elsewhere. (Please note, though, that submitting a piece for academic assessment does not count as being published).
  • Authors should aim for 750–1500 words — this is not a strict limit, but we may consider cutting your piece down or splitting it into a two-part series if it is any longer.
  • Submissions do not need to be perfect — we have a rigorous editorial process, and we are happy to accept drafts or academic essays and work with you to turn them into articles ready for publication.
  • If you want to remove a piece, please ask first.
  • The best articles we receive combine novel intellectual commentary with personal insight — don’t be afraid to be opinionated or blend writing styles!

How to Submit

  1. Send your article to publications.uqppes@gmail.com
  2. While we get started on the editing process, make a Medium account and make sure you have a profile picture.
  3. We’ll get in touch with you to chat editing and publication!

It’s that easy!
