#State4States: How @StateDept Works for the American People

The U.S. Department of State leads American foreign policy through diplomacy and assistance by advancing the interests of the American people, their safety, and economic prosperity.
The State Department benefits the American people on a daily basis. The Department’s work in advancing national security, promoting our economic interests, providing services, and reaffirming our country’s exceptional role in the world does not only benefit our partners and allies, it benefits the American people. Some programs make big splashes, and some are behind-the-scenes. What binds them all and remains constant is that the State Department is constantly working on behalf of Americans, in promotion of democratic values and the advancement of a free, peaceful, and prosperous world.
The Department’s impact can be seen in classrooms, where exchange students share ideas and build mutual understanding. It can be seen in military exercises, where our fighting forces train alongside our allies to share best practices in the defense of our respective nations. It can be seen in the foreign direct investment of a company in a small town, creating jobs and bolstering our communities’ economies. With each touchpoint of the Department of State in urban centers and rural communities across the United States, our country becomes more secure, more prosperous, and more peaceful.
