Experience the holiday spirit across Staten Island
Bright lights, family events and holiday cheer in more towns than ever before
The Staten Island Economic Development Corp. recently announced plans to make several towns winter wonderlands during the holiday shopping season. Thanks to extensive support from the Richmond County Savings Foundation, Councilman Steven Matteo and Councilman Joe Borelli, all the businesses of New Dorp, Richmond Valley, the Richmond Road corridor and Huguenot will feature extensive decorations and holiday events.
“SIEDC believes that neighborhood development in Business Improvement Districts and merchant groups are critical for substantial economic growth on Staten Island,” explained Steve Grillo, first vice president of the SIEDC. “Thanks to the continued support of the Richmond County Savings Foundation, Councilmen Matteo, Councilman Borelli and the merchants themselves, we are delighted to announce that we will be decorating and spreading holiday cheer like never before.”
The following list represents the holiday attractions in each town:
• New Dorp — The New Dorp Business Improvement District will proudly mount customized welcome light signs, holiday light strands and wreaths along New Dorp Lane and New Dorp Plaza. The 4th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting & Holiday Festival will be held on Thursday, Dec. 7, from 5–7 p.m. on New Dorp Lane between 10th Street and New Dorp Plaza. The event will feature a family photo booth with Santa, a trackless train, holiday costume characters, petting zoo, dance demonstrations, merchant raffles, refreshments from New Dorp establishments and other family-friendly entertainment.
• Richmond Road — The Richmond Road Merchants Association is mounting strands of festive lights along the commercial strip throughout the Four Corners Road area. A Tree Lighting event will be centered around the Santander Bank parking lot on the corner of Liberty Avenue and Richmond Road on Sunday, Dec. 10 from 3–5 p.m. In addition to the tree lighting, the event will feature a visit by Santa Claus, carolers, rides for children, merchant sales, refreshments from local establishments, merchant giveaways and much more.
• Richmond Valley — Strands of holiday lights as well as attractive pole lights will decorate the Arthur Kill Road, Page Avenue, South Bridge and the Veterans Road/Tyrellan corridor.
• Huguenot — Strands of lights accompanied by light pole decorations will line the town of Huguenot attracting holiday shoppers to the local merchants while creating and enjoyable holiday ambiance.
