Need disaster relief from Hurricane Sandy? The SIEDC has provided tips and resources

Staten Islanders are continuing clean up and recovery efforts following last week’s devastating effects of Hurricane Sandy. In times like these, many people are in need of outside assistance.

Over the last few days, the Staten Island Economic Development Corporation is just one organization that has been extending its hands to those in need. The SIEDC recently sent out a list of tips, guidelines, resources and contact information for other organizations that can help those in need.

In addition to assembling a general tip sheet for disaster relief (which can be downloaded here), the SIEDC provided these tips:

• The Center for Disease Control and Prevention has provided instructions on how to clean up your office after a hurricane, such as how to remove drywall, clean surfaces, etc. Click here to read more.

• The Environmental Protection Agency has given tips on recovering from a hurricane at www.epa.gov/hurricanes/#recover_hurricane.

• The New York City Economic Development Corp. has released a “Disaster Prep and Recovery” Guide and Powerpoint. Click here to read the guide.

• FEMA: Business owners can fill out an online questionnaire to see which types of assistance they qualify for, and fill out an online application by visiting www.disasterassistance.gov, or by web enabled mobile device at m.fema.gov or by calling 1–800–621-FEMA (3362).
