Over 500 Dapps Reached!
Today marks an important day in Ethereum’s ecosystem as it crosses the threshold of 500 Dapps (decentralized applications) being built upon it’s network according to EtherCasts.
Why is this significant? Looking back upon historical information within the IT/IS space, a true indication of it’s success can be measured by it’s amount of developers working on projects within a platforms ecosystem. One of the first rivalries dates back to Apple vs Microsoft as the OS X competed against Microsoft’s Windows. On a side by side comparison, Apple arguably had the superior product with an easier user experience, hardware specifically designed to run it’s platform, and better graphical compositing. However, Microsoft dominated the market with it’s rich developer network and appealed to consumers on more of a budget.
The same can be said in Ethereum’s ecosystem. While competitors may offer unique advantages over Ethereum, developers are still flocking and building their applications upon it’s network. The first half of 2017 showed an explosive growth to Ethereum’s application growth with already a 102% increase in developed dapps from the previous year. Not only did the amount of dapps been built increase, there was also a large uptick from the current dapps that were in development deploy to live state.
Dapps progress by the number:
As developer confidence on the platform likely wavered in the previous 2 years, 2017 was a highly active year with not only new dapps being introduced but many older projects being revitalized. We saw a huge uptick of 245 updates in 2017 as compared to 2016 we saw only 146.
While the vast majority of the dapps available on the network are games, there is still plenty of potential for developers to explore and one would not have to look too far to see it’s brilliant innovation in motion.
