Dear word acrobats and rail romantics,

Welcome aboard today’s Poetry Express! Buckle up, we’re about to enter a world where there are definitely shortcuts — at least in the art of the spoken word.

“But wait,” I hear you shout, “don’t all motivational speakers say there are no shortcuts?” Right, they do. And in America they like to shout it into the microphone: “There are no shortcuts!” But while they do that, they themselves are using a powerful shortcut to success. Which one is that? Stay tuned, I’ll tell you right away.

Let’s let the facts speak first: there are shortcuts everywhere. Every time you hop on the train and jet across the country to the next poetry slam, you’re taking a shortcut over walking — and far more stylish and inspiring!

Yes, the rails need to be laid and the trains built, just like highways and airplanes. But once created, they are the golden passenger to faster, further, deeper experiences. And this is where the poetry slam comes into play.

The real trick that every good speaker — or in our case, every brilliant poet — uses is the audience itself. Your audience is your highway, your plane, your bullet train to people’s hearts and minds. With a few cleverly chosen words and a dose of charm, you can convey ideas faster than any other medium.

Imagine holding the microphone stand, the train starts moving, and with every verse you utter, you build a bridge between your soul and that of the listeners. Being a good poet isn’t just about putting words together into a pretty bouquet. No, it means navigating the landscape of language and finding shortcuts that lead straight to the hearts of your audience.

And as we glide through the landscape of language, let us not forget that each of us has our own cordless screwdriver in the form of a sharp mind and a quick tongue. With these tools we not only nail down metaphors, but also build bridges and paths that no one has ever trodden before us.

So, dear travelers in the world of words, don’t forget: your voice is your ticket, your poems are the rails, and the applause at the end of the evening is the train station we all want to arrive at.

Until the next stop, where we will again have the opportunity to roll down the windows and breathe in fresh, poetic air. Stay tuned and above all: stay poetic!

With cheerful greetings from wagon to wagon,

Stephen

P.S.: Don’t forget to bring your favorite poems with you as travel provisions!
