Glaciers

Heading south from Hokitika, we headed for the glaciers. It was quite fun to see the changes in the glaciers since I last visited New Zealand almost 20 years ago. I remember walking right up to the Franz Josef glacier back then. With no climbing needed we could walk right to it and touch it. Since then the glaciers have retreated quite a bit and looked very small compared to what I remember. You are no longer allowed to approach the glaciers without a trained guide. It was still very beautiful to see the extreme forces of nature.
