DEAR JOB SEEKER: NO MATTER HOW DESPERATE YOU ARE, DON’T EVER…

For about 3 months, a lady (or not lady) has sent the same job application email to our company and 10 other companies similar to ours (hence, our competitors) copied in the same email, and no, not a blind copy… its a real copy 😃

For the first few days (2 to 3 days or so), I forwarded the application to HR and was willing to do a bit of follow-up, but then, it became quite annoying that she kept sending the same email for 3 months!

I decided to compile a list of weird things people do that might be causing more harm than good, at least from my personal experience:

1. DON’T SPAM

And of course, first item on my list is don’t Spam…

unending list of her emails
Do you see how many emails are in the copy?

2. Don’t do this …

I’m not sure what to call this, just see the email and don’t ever do anything like that…

Don’t do short notes

3. Don’t Get Angry

At my former place of employment, we interviewed a guy… after the whole interview process, he was sent an email to encourage him to keep improving on himself and that he won’t get the job at this time.

Chairman replied with

You will not get someone better than me, I was trying to help you.

That’s the summary of what he said. We had a good laugh that day.

4. Don’t copy other emails

If you are applying to more than one company at the same time, don’t be lazy, send the emails separately. Don’t copy other companies and especially not competitors.

5. Don’t go for that interview

Yep, don’t go for that interview without verifying the authenticity of the company on isthisarealjob.com.

isthisarealjob.com is one of StayBusy projects, the aim is to reduce the rate at which job seekers get scammed. We presently have more than 100 fake job interview messages, you can add to this list to join in the fight against scammers.
