About Stella Nova
Stories Matter Foundation and StoryStudio Chicago present: Stella Nova, an online literary magazine for emerging, young writers.
Who We Are
StoryStudio Chicago is part of the Stories Matter Foundation, a 501c3 charitable non-profit whose mission is to build communities of storytellers trained to question, explore, celebrate, and change their worlds using the power of story. Meet our staff, many of whom help run this magazine.
Stella Nova is a home for your words. As a young writer having participated in any of our summer camps, creative writing classes, or Chicago Stories Project programs, we are delighted to showcase the work you’ve produced right here in your very own magazine.
What We Publish
Fiction, poetry, and nonfiction. There is no theme or limitation on what you’ll find in this magazine, only talent and passion for telling stories.
Some of our published pieces will come from our writing contests, which we hold 2–3 times a year. Check out our contest guidelines for more information.
We publish youth writers in grades 5th — 12th.
How to Get Published Here
Unfortunately, we are not open for general submissions. We lead youth workshops and camps, guiding young writers to produce creative work that can then be published here in the magazine.
Why “Stella Nova?”
Our sister publication, Arcturus magazine, is named after the star that opened the 1933 “Century of Progress” World’s Fair in Chicago. We wanted to keep our connection thematically linked. The term “stella nova” loosely means “new star,” and because we feature young writers and their rising talent, Stella Nova seemed the perfect name for our magazine.
Unless otherwise noted, all imagery in Stella Nova is in the public domain.
