Hi friends — it’s Monique — the over-user of em dashes and creator of STEM First! Gen.

While we are working on an eye opening tutorial on how to submit your pitches to the publication, I thought it would be great (for the moment) to work out some steps to take when submitting your draft, which we will publish for you. It is a bit confusing, as we are not just taking your article and sending it off to the universe.

We want to bring you into the spotlight, with an entire welcoming committee package. In order for that to happen…

Create the free Medium account — then get your draft done.

Easy peasy. If you have an account already, skip this. However let’s talk about the beginning… from scratch. Medium just asks for your email, then they send you a link to activate the account. Set up your profile, a nice username, link your Twitter to it, and you should be ready to start your draft.

Write the story.

So now you click “Write a story” and you complete your draft. Add pictures, links to your blog, YouTube, etc. Give it your personal touches! Whatever you do, do not publish it yet.

You see those three dots?

Yep, those on the upper right hand corner on your draft. Click it. You see “Share draft link”? Perfect. Click that and copy the link.

Behold the form!

Here’s the link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc56kAL8i1_VbmWMxRPICEMiKp5eThMILjsQLVxZIkw0ukesw/viewform?usp=sf_link

Click on that; take your time and enjoy the little questionnaire! Share the links to your Medium account, then to your Twitter (if you have one — highly recommended for sharing purposes). Most importantly, we need that “share draft link” that you copied. You have the option to edit your response if you think you made any mistakes.

Now sit back and relax!

We (well the editor…) is going to review your submission and draft. If it’s accepted, you will get a note on the article with the next step of instructions. If we have any questions, expect a phone call — just kidding! We will contact you via the email you sent with the request form.

I hope this can be of some aid for the meantime. I recommend familiarizing yourself with navigating around the Medium platform, STEM First! Gen.’s publication, and the submission form. I think learning the comings and goings of the networks would immensely avoid any confusion. If not — just reach out. We are ready to aid!

Cheerio!
