Hey, world!

I’m Steph, and I’m excited to be on this new educational pursuit towards being a marketer of tomorrow. In case you’re not one of my fellow students or my Marketing Management & Strategy professor, I should probably explain what I mean by that. I’ve recently begun pursuing my MS in Digital Marketing at Yeshiva University’s Katz School. It took many years of hesitation, a few career changes, and a global pandemic to get me here, but hey, here’s to it!

In this blog, I’ll be covering a variety of topics on the subject of — you guessed it — marketing! Some of them may be assigned by my professor and some might even be me just, ya know, riffing, but either way, if you’ve made it this far on this blog post it’s apparent you’re on this marketing blogging journey with me.

So just a bit more about me, since I know you’re oh so curious ;) I’m a 28-year-old CT native who graduated with a BA in Journalism from the University of Connecticut (go Huskies!). I spent a few years post-grad living in NYC working in recruitment, then in Sales at Indeed.com (selling recruitment advertising). In 2017, however, I decided to take a break from the rat race while I still could; I had paid off all my student loan debt and had nothing tying me down — no kids, no mortgage payments — so I sold most of the belongings in my Brooklyn apartment and felt the country with nothing but a backpack. I decided to blog about my adventures…and in learning what makes a successful travel blog, I also learned that I have a passion for helping others find their audience, and thus my passion for digital marketing was born.

After backpacking, I ended up settling down for in Hanoi, Vietnam, and teaching English as a Second Language from Fall 2018 until February 2020. I also had the opportunity to do some freelance digital marketing for Vietnamese clients, which was a rewarding and fun experience.

Anyway, I’ve now come full circle, being back stateside in my hometown and, unfortunately, in the midst of a global pandemic. It will be interesting to see how marketing adapts to a post-pandemic world, but I am confident we adaptive, modern, technologically advanced digital marketers of tomorrow will be a part of positive change.

Stay Savvy,

Steph
