just the essence
Last week, I spent hours on an emotional post about tragedy and healing and music. Wordpress/my computer had some sort of meltdown and lost nearly all of it.
The important part: One day after watching horror unfold so close to home, I got away from Connecticut and spent a few hours on Dec. 15 in a room filled with light and love and warmth.
Thank you, Rhett Miller, for the tweet — among a never-ending stream of wrenching messages during those two days — informing me of this wonderfully unconventional show for a great cause.
Here he is during the grand finale, with Larry Campbell and Teresa Williams (of Levon Helm band fame), Happy Traum, The Trapps, Sweet Clementines, and a bunch of talented kids (and their parents in the audience), performing “The Weight.”
I’m not usually a fan of phone video-ing during concerts, but this was special. It was a tiny good memory to hold onto in the days that followed, and one worth sharing, too.
