this year’s gimmick

The annual year-end music lists have turned into an almost stressful undertaking. Over the years and in many different blogs, I’ve done rankings of every single album purchased, top 10 countdowns, haikus, and… not even sure what else.

This year’s main challenge was that I bought only one 2011 album on CD. (Isn’t that horrible?) The rest were Amazon digital versions and repeated Spotify listens. To make end-of-year things possible, all three of those categories are going to count.

I also decided that the “everyone in one bucket” countdowns and rankings are sort of unfair. Out of loyalty or bias or whatever, favorite artists are always at the top (unless they really go downhill, which hasn’t happened in recent memory), which makes things silly and predictable.

So, all-new snappy categories and format for this year:
