Lots and Lots of Money
Money is a strange topic. There are large groups of people that believe money is the root of all evil. On the opposite side of the fence, there is a group of people that believe money truly can buy happiness; although I doubt they actually phrase it like that.
But what is money? If you’re talking purely from an economical standpoint, Adam Smith describes it as work. That is, money really just represents and an amount of labor being purchased. Some labor is worth more than others and thus, some people are paid more for the work they do.
So I think the real question here is why do you want money? If having lots of people serving you brings happiness, then perhaps the second group is right. If on the other hand, lots of money enslaves millions of those around you to your service, then perhaps the first group is right.
I personally want a lot of money but not for happiness. I’m already happy thanks to amazing friends, family, myself and being just plain lucky by being born in the right place at the right time.
I want money because the ideas I want to pursue take a lot of work. I can’t do it alone and the only way to move mass amounts of people towards a common goal is with money in 2017. Yes, you can start a movement but ultimately because we living in a capitalistic world, money must be the vehicle to transport ideas into the land of reality.
Of course, I’d love to live in a world where money wasn’t the fairest system we could come up with. I’m much rather live in a world where being smart or something like that played a greater role in the quality of life but as we all know, it’s usually self-esteem that trumps smarts because that’s how money works.
