Fat Daddy’s : A Star Spangled Patio Launch Party!
Fat Daddy’s LIVE! just finished up the newly remodeled patio at their location in Mansfield this June. I attended the launch party with a few other special media event guests from DFWbloggers.com. Just a quick trip south of the DFW metroplex, this venue offers Live music, Full brunch/dinner menu, a spacious climate controlled party patio, multiple bars with lots of signature drink choices, a sizable dance floor, billiards tables, meeting rooms and even a bit of eye candy greeting you in the entrance. No, not that kind of eye candy! The kind that makes you say, yeah I could see that in my garage. They have a revolving line of Award Winning hot rods on display from House of Hot Rods, another AnjMar companies venture.
Until recently, I had only been to Fat Daddy’s a handful of times and never made it to the Mansfield location. As soon as I drove up, I realized this place was not your typical sports bar & grill. As I walked in the main entrance, my eyes were drawn to the showcased Hot Rod of the month, a canary yellow 1932 Ford with a powerful 460 staring right at you. This Beauty was spinning around on its own stage behind the hostess looking as if it was begging me to jump in and stomp that pedal on the drag strip. All I could think was this place knows how to get some attention! I was again surprised by the full size dragster hanging from the ceiling just inside the main bar room. I proceeded past the floor to ceiling main bar to have a buffet style dinner including fresh salad, bacon wrapped stuffed jalapenos/flavorful grilled jumbo shrimp, grilled chicken with home-style mashed potatoes and sweet corn finished off with a homemade peach cobbler. Considering the attention to the details given in the remodel, I wasn’t surprised the food was so good. I glanced over the brunch and dinner menus to see that they had the normal choices like salads, burgers, steaks and grilled chicken. Then I saw the dishes they incorporated that reinforced that feeling this place has some flavor in it. Mouth watering choices like Secret Recipe Texas Chili, Cadillac Nachos topped with a Shiner Bock Queso, chicken and bacon enchiladas (who couldn’t use more bacon, right?) and Cilantro Ranch salad. Off the brunch menu there were Migas filled enchiladas, Sriracha glazed chicken and waffles and even a bananna/strawberry with nutella topped crepes. My thoughts, The food is good and had a lot of choices for everyone regardless of tastes. what about the rest though? I was eager to see what they were selling.
Now on to what makes this place stand out for me personally, Atmosphere. Like most people in DFW area, I like the relaxed patio atmosphere. What I don’t enjoy is that same atmosphere in TEXAS weather. This is where those little details of the patio expansion come into play. The elevated patio is HUGE, with roll up doors on three sides, includes various climate controls with large SILENT fans. In Texas, climate control is a must have and I wonder how so many places have fallen short in this area when Fat Daddy’s design team got it right so easily! While most places throw some lawn furniture on a deck and a couple fans and radiant heaters beats me. Fat Daddy’s has done an excellent job in designing an inviting patio with appeal for those that require more than just a place to grab a drink. There is plenty of comfortable seating and the tables are spread out so that you can actually walk around and mingle with other guests without being crowded. It feels like an actual outdoor Party Deck. The Frankie’s Patio Bar is just a few steps away from the deck with a limestone fireplace to relax by in the cooler months and gives this place a real welcoming down-home Texas feel. There are 80 inch flat screens on either side of the patio that can be seen from any seat that add to the other 30 flat screens strategically placed around the 16,000 sqft space. The patio is eye-catching being constructed of bronze painted steel I beams, stained wood trusses and suspended pendant lighting. The seating consists of lounge style couches, various table heights and chairs. The pub style seats around the perimeter of the deck make it easy to view the parking lot during the Longhorn Harley Davidson bike nights they host.
Fat daddy’s has done a great job hosting various crowd draws like the Longhorn Harley Davidson Bike nights every Thursday, Karaoke nights on Wednesdays, Officially Sanctioned World Poker Tour tournaments on Mondays, Live bands on Friday/Saturdays on the newly constructed stage and Acoustical Performance Sundays on the new party patio. Each night includes drink specials like “Crown and Drown” sure to go easy on the wallet. While they do have a family friendly atmosphere during the day, they do have age restrictions on Friday and Saturday nights after 9pm of 21 and up.
While I was there the General Manager gave us a personal tour of the place including all the really fun details about the way they get the cars on loan from their sister company House of Hot Rods, local entertainment and bands that can speak to management directly instead of some booking agent and direct community involvement like the annual Play a Round Charity Golf Tournament they host through their parent company AnjMar Companies. I was impressed by the layout, the spaciousness and the extremely family oriented environment they offer. The look and feel of the remodeled Fat Daddy’s is top notch and fills the need for a local bar and grill with a nightlife combined for the area. The only other Live music bar and grill is in miles away in Arlington and I know personally it doesn’t come close to this one. Additionally I did pickup a few well placed mentions from the management team so listen up. A few of the mentions included a 165" projection screen for showing major sporting events, a Coors Light Ice bar (made of REAL ICE) and WiFi being made available for guests (no mention of whether its free or not so do ask) and a Halloween Bash including prizes for Sexiest Costume, Best Costume and Most Creative Costume.
All in All, Go visit them. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it as much as I did.
