Interpretation of Story

This is just my opinion, based on logic shown below.
- There are 3 sections. Each could be beginning, middle and end.
Beginning: He squeezed her hand; — note the long pause “;”
Middle: then some more.
End: She was silent. - There are 2 characters in this story, He and She.
- They have some relationship, a relationship intimate enough to allow holding of hands.
- They are not holding each other’s hands equally, in fact He squeezed her hand and she didn’t squeeze back.
- Then He squeezed some more — So, He seems to be in control.
- She is not reacting at all. She is being passive.
- The relationship is one-sided and further entrenched when she becomes silent.
- The actions of He is dominant and the lack of actions of She make her passive.
- What sort of relationship fits this logic?
Initially, I decided this was an abusive relationship. But, then someone pointed out that there is no actual abuse written about. What is written about is a “controlling” relationship. Undoubtedly abuse would soon follow if she didn’t give in totally.
What do you think?
