Have you ever thought about the importance of having a hobby? We have! Because your hobbies tell a lot about what you love and what you have learned in the past.

For example, sports are great for learning how to be an effective group member, deal with frustration, give the extra-mile and canalize competitiveness… Cooking develops patience and creativity... Painting helps expressing ideas and communicating…Playing online games improves leadership skills… Running helps you concentrating and dealing with tiredness…

So, what’s your hobby?

Eline, Principal Recruitment Consultant at JP Gray says sports!

We sat with her to ask these 10 rapid-fire questions about sports and her career at JP Gray, one of SThree’s brands.

1. What is your background?

Believe it or not, I have a bachelor in sports management and business! Yep, at JP Gray and SThree we find many people with diverse backgrounds, it adds to the diversity and enhances creativity.

2. What is your real passion in life?

I love sports, food, adventures, discovering new places and traveling! I dream of going on a long trip around the world someday.

🎶…And music, I cannot help moving my feet when I listen to a beat that I like.

3. Tell us something funky about yourself

I used to be a dance and aerobics teacher! I want to be on the stage again and rock it!

4. Did you have any experience in sales or recruitment before you joined SThree?

Not at all. I even thought I did not have the flair for negotiation, or recruiting, or sales… but it turned up I did.

At the time I figured I had a unique approach, one I share with SThree — It’s all about the person, not about the deal! I like to put people at the center of any process and it has always given me good results.

5. How did you overcome the fact of not having any experience in the staffing industry?

Training was a big part of that process but my attitude played a key role. At sports I always striven to train and become the best player; the professional world couldn’t be that different.

I thought — there are many people who do this, why couldn’t I? —. I decided to aim high, to step out of my comfort zone, to learn, to work hard… and one day I succeeded.

5. tell us about your path inside the company

It’s very cliché, but it has been both an amazing journey and true roller-coaster! I have learned a lot, faced challenges, failed and succeeded — all that has brought me where I am now.

If I could describe SThree in 5 words, I’ll say FUN , international, Organic, Supportive and Amazing! — Eline

6. What has been your most satisfying accomplishment at SThree?

Winning the #1 position for NPS within the Netherlands.

(NPS stands for Net Promoter Satisfaction, it measures customer experience)

I feel proud of this because I had never been a hardcore seller but I found my way in recruitment by combining my own unique approach with the “ win-the-game” attitude I got from sports.

7. What’s your team like?

I have two very hard-working and resilient recruitment consultants in my team. It’s amazing to see them grow and I feel glad to be part of their development.

8. What is one characteristic that you believe every leader should possess?

Patience and empathy!

9. What do women need to do today to pull the future towards them?

Finding their own unique strengths and use them to make the difference! Uniqueness is more powerful that perfection :)

10. What advice would you give to women going into a leadership position for the first time?

In order to be winners, you have to pay attention to your weaknesses. Once you have them fully identified, work on them, train yourselves, ask for feedback and learn!

One more: what is your biggest advise to women and men who have just started their careers in recruitment?

Set SMART* short-term targets and make them part of your BIG goal, build your future every day.

*SMART: Specific, Measurable, Assignable, Realistic and Time-related.

There you go! Go and rock your hobby and professional life!
