This year, Stink women observed International Women’s Day in a variety of ways. Whether protesting, volunteering, donating, wearing purple, or spending time with loved ones, we honored the many types of work women around the world do every day.

Marking the day in our London studio, the women of Stink Studios & Films made a £500 donation to Bloody Good Period. Bloody Good Period provides menstrual supplies to asylum seekers, refugees & those who can’t afford them. In addition to making a donation, they also designed a GIF for the organization’s future use.

In Paris, the men of Stink honored their friends and colleagues by sending each woman in the office a beautiful bouquet of flowers.

I attended a day of workshops and panels at the Civic Center in Manhattan hosted by CivicWomen. These sessions served as a call-to-action for people interested in community organization, and armed us with the tools to carry on our work throughout the year. Afterwards, I met up with some friends and fellow Stinkers at Ladies Get Drinks hosted by the wonderful squad at Ladies Get Paid, a Slack community who advocates for women getting paid what they’re worth.

Marlina took to the streets at the International Women’s Day Celebration & Strike in Downtown LA. Speakers included Dolores Huerta and Mimi Kennedy. In marching, Marlina joined women all over the world who were protesting and resisting the historical marginalization of women everywhere.

The original aim of International Women’s Day was to achieve full gender equality. It has been observed since the early 1900s and is now recognized each year on March 8 as a day of recognition and celebration of women globally.

Women make up almost 50 percent of the advertising industry, but many ads still portray stereotypical gender roles — women clean homes and men drive fancy cars. International Women’s Day provides an opportunity to pause, reflect, and create content by and for women.

Stink Studios has gender parity in leadership, and recognizes that gender diversity leads to better work. By observing International Women’s Day, we honored the women at Stink Studios and the contributions they make every single day.
