Today the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus event unveiled Apples latest, greatest flagship phones. In 5 colours, some familiar, two types of Black (matte, and jet “piano” black). The glossy black is achieved via a nine step process of anodisation and polish. The four colours — silver, gold, rose gold and matte black all seem to have a matte finish but I have not seen any in person yet.

iOS 10

iMessage now has many new features, many have been brought across from watchOS such as drawing, heartbeat and animated smileys, many new first party stickers including terrific for those nostalgic for Classic Mac icons and elements. Third party sticker apps are forthcoming and should replace many of the third party keyboards which many have been wary of since they require “Full Access” to all system functions. I myself have not installed any Google or Microsoft keyboards for this reason, even though the corporations have assured users they are not using them to collect data on iOS users.
3D Touch has gained a great update — for example if there are notifications inside a folder, you can hard press the folder, and it will bring up the apps that may need attention. Finally, you can use the “Clear All” function that Apple Watch users have been enjoying for 18 Months.

Very handy update for 3D Touch — many others too.

The new wireless AirPods, and the two jet black iPhones — Lightning EarPods are included with iPhones

Rumours Confirmed:

The 3.5mm jack has been removed — adaptor included with iPhone
Lightning Connector EarBuds included in box, and AirPods are the new Apple wireless headphone for Macs, Watches and iOS devices.
Water and Dust Resistant
Dual Cameras on the iPhone 7 Plus
Wide Colour screen and cameras
Stereo Speakers
FeliCa contactless technology for Japanese Customers

Rumours Negated:

Bezel Remains
No dark blue model — perhaps the matte black confused early leakers
Home button still exists — has changed to a solid-state though…

Both with great enhancements to their camera, the 7+ comes with two lenses

New Camera Systems

The worlds most popular camera just got a lot better, both the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus now feature optical image stabilisation, and a larger ƒ/1.8 aperture with a 6 element lens. This allows wider colour capture, more detail and better low light performance.
The iPhone 7 Plus features a second, telephoto camera which enables it to offer 2x optical zoom and up to 10x digital.

Expected in a software update, the dual 12-megapixel cameras will enable a depth-of-field effect which enables focussing on multiple elements in one photo, which was typically only possible with DSLR cameras in the past.
Other camera enhancements include a new signal processor, a 7 megapixel front FaceTime HD camera with wider gamut, and auto stabilisation for sharper selfies and a new Quad-LED True Tone flash which is even brighter than has an anti flicker sensor to compensate in videos and photos — will be interesting to see that in action!
