With countless movies that have fictional and non-fictional moments in sports it might be hard to pick a favorite. From historical moments, childhood heroes, and superstars some might think of the options as endless.

Sit back, relax, and enjoy the list of the top five sports movies.

5. Moneyball

With Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill combining to reenact the low budget Oakland Athletics in their historic season Moneyball cracks the top five. The Oakland Athletics 20 game win streak and 2002 season is all captured in this sports filled and drama packed movie.

Moneyball takes the viewer behind the scenes of when their historic season was accomplished. Home runs may not be the only thing that wins games according the A’s. Billy Beane (Brad Pitt) and Peter Brand (Jonah Hill) take on analytics and a low budget to create a team they believe can win.

4. Bull Durham

A mixture of love, baseball, a young gun superstar and a seasoned veteran, Bull Durham takes the fourth spot on the list. Crash Davis (Kevin Costner) plays an aging Minor League player who is brought in to guide hotshot Ebby Calvin ‘Nuke’ LaLoosh (Tim Robbins) to reach the MLB. Thrown into the mix is Annie Savoy (Susan Sarandon) who continually plays with their emotions throughout the baseball season.

3. DodgeBall: A True Underdog Story

Coming in third is a sport played off the average baseball, soccer, or football field. This movie is centered on red rubber balls. Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn face-off in fierce competition in DodgeBall: A True Underdog Story.

In fear of his gym (Average Joe’s) going out business, Peter La Fleur (Vince Vaughn) enters his staff in the Las Vegas DodgeBall Tournament in hopes of keeping his gym from sinking. Only to be met by White Goodman (Ben Stiller), Peter La Fleur must beat his much more successful foe to have any hope from going under. Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn team up to create an interesting underdog story.

2. 42

A movie centered on the man who single handedly broke the color barrier in baseball. Chadwick Boseman takes on the role of Jackie Robinson in 42 and highlights the stars entrance into the MLB in 1947.

A combination of breaking down barriers and, what most people call America’s pastime, baseball. 42 is a film that goes beyond the sport itself and presents a much more pressing issue in time. Jackie Robinson faced considerable amount racism at the time of his entrance into the MLB and he let his talent silence the critics.

  1. The Sandlot

Based on a dysfunctional group of friends who just want to play baseball The Sandlot tops the list of best sports movies. Scotty Smalls, the new kid in town, joins a rag tag group of kids in a summer filled with adventure, baseball and long-lasting friendship.

While trouble meets them along the way, due to Scotty Smalls messing with his stepdad’s baseball, they must find a way to get past the beast in the sandlot’s backyard to retrieve the priceless item. Writers David Mickey Evans and Robert Gunter capture an endless summer of baseball in this 90s classic.
