UCLA has a new and unconventional way to do gymnastics

Right now between the top two teams, there is a .211 point difference between the first place Oklahoma and second-place UCLA. With the NCAA Championship happening at the end of March. The title could go either way, but in the end, UCLA will be the back-back winner of the NCAA Title, for 2018 and 2019.

UCLA has had one of their best seasons yet. Their average score between all four events for a meet is 197.675.In addition. they have had more than five perfect 10s this year alone. Last year, they had a record of six perfect 10s in one meeting which is next to unheard of in this sport.

They also are ranked number one in the nation on floor, with the average points of 49.572. On vault, their average points are 49.244. The average beam score is 49.403 and a 49.456 average for bars.

On top of having amazing stats this year, they also have some star athletes. The first would be Katelyn Ohashi; every time you read about her, it is because she has scored a perfect 10s. She has five career perfect 10s on floor, beam, and vault. On top of all of that, she has the most watched sports clip of 2019.

There is then Kayla Ross who is the first female gymnast ever to ever to win Olympics medals, World Championships, and NCAA championships. In 2018, she was the 2018 Pac-12 all-around champion, uneven bars co-champion, and an Olympic gold medalist. This year alone she has had one of her best seasons, scoring seven perfect 10s.

There are so many amazing athletes on this team, but Kayla Ross and Katelyn Ohashi are the ones that have been on top all season. The reason that UCLA is going to come out on top is due to their coaching staff, especially head coach Valorie Kondos Field, also known as “Miss Val”.

Miss Val’s method is about working hard but more importantly having fun, which is what her athletes are doing, putting them over the top. They are having fun and it does truly show; it could be on the sidelines or on their specific event.

This season is incredibly special for this team because Miss Vall is retiring this year. Miss Val has been with the UCLA Gymnastics team for 37 years, 4-time Conference Coach of the Year and has won seven NCAA Championship. With this being her last season the UCLA Gymnastics team has more motivation than ever to win the 2019 NCAA Championship.

Oklahoma better watch their backs because UCLA is coming for that NCAA title.
