Our goal with Chipmunk has always been empowering users to take control over the creative process and make creating and managing assets as a team as easy as possible.

We heard from many members of creative teams, plus many in marketing or other operational areas, about the slowdowns they encounter during their day to day workflow, both during the design process and production use. We weren’t surprised by the responses we got:

“I can never find the file I need.”

“Am I sure this is the right version?”

“I spent a lot of time converting files from one file type to another.”

Chipmunk has come a long way to address these concerns and we’re excited to announce that we’ve taken it a step further: you can now convert images directly within Chipmunk.

Not being able to find the file you need is frustrating. Your team puts in the hard work to get the file where you want it to be, after rounds of iterating, and sometimes it’s even a battle to make sure everyone involved is happy. The hard part should be over! But, where is it? Which version did we agree on? Please just give me the file I need, in the format I need.

Chipmunk exists in great part due to how many times this happened to our team. So how does Chipmunk make it so you never have this problem?

Using Draft Workflow, a team can iterate together on the design of an asset.

Draft Workflow streamlines the process of getting the design right, but more importantly in this case, preserves a history of the conversation that took place to arrive at a conclusion. Consult the asset’s revision history to refresh your memory: Why did we go in this direction? What was agreed upon in the end?

Once an asset has been published to your Chipmunk team, you can upload a new revision any time a change is made.

This version becomes the asset’s published head, but the history of each asset’s revision timeline is always stored in case you need it later. With this workflow in place, there’s never any confusion about which file to use because the asset is always up to date.

Tag assets, search for them, and view your team’s history.

We threw in a couple of features that make it easier to find your assets in general, like keyword searching from any page, and the ability to tag your assets. There’s also a feed of all activity so you can see new assets or revisions to existing assets uploaded recently, at a glance.

It’s quick and easy to go between file types for a variety of uses without opening a photo editing application or other specialty software.

Convert your files right in Chipmunk

Finally, once you located the file you want, download the original file from Chipmunk or choose the file type you need. We currently support converting most image types, including Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator files, to most other common image types. Go straight from your vector source file to a web-ready PNG without opening software. For 3D models, you can convert Autodesk FBX to GLB. Many more conversion options are in the works.

We hope the ability to convert your files right in Chipmunk will reduce some of the friction in your content strategy and would love to know what you think. Let us know if you have any feedback on this or any features mentioned here.
