Politically Motivated Raid of Sheila Kuehl Further Proof Villanueva Must Go

Stonewall is hosting an LGBTQ+ meet and greet with Sheriff Robert Luna Tonight

Yesterday, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department executed a disturbing raid on the home and office of Supervisor Sheila Kuehl. Supervisor Kuehl has been an outspoken critic of Sheriff Alex Villanueva, has called for his resignation, and is a proponent of a ballot measure that would allow the Board of Supervisors to remove him.

This unprecedented move is a disturbing culmination of increasingly belligerent rhetoric and tactics by the Sheriff against his perceived political enemies over the past several years. Los Angeles County does not need a corrupt, Trumpian Sheriff that weaponizes the power of his office to silence his critics and evade accountability.

The Stonewall Democratic Club has endorsed Chief Robert Luna for Los Angeles Sheriff in the upcoming November 8 election. We know that the LGBTQ+ community has a complicated history with police, and that we are all feeling disillusioned and betrayed by Alex Villanueva. Tonight, we are hoping to begin the healing process, to take our seat at the table with Chief Luna, and to ensure that the LGBTQ+ community is a stakeholder in his administration. Because today, it’s become abundantly and urgently clear:

Alex Villanueva must go.

I hope you will join me and Stonewall’s Acting Vice President of Community, Nico Brancolini, and Hans Johnson, President of the East Area Progressive Democrats, for a meet-and-greet and Q&A tonight with Sheriff Luna at Casita Del Campo in Silverlake from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm.

In solidarity,

Alex Mohajer | President

Stonewall Democratic Club
