75 Parisiennes : Work about Real Parisian Ladies in Their Home
A special way for portraits—Short Interview with Baudouin.
Baudouin, the photographer from France, presents us an interesting series “75 Parisiennes”. Just like his photos for magazines, the sense of beauty and fashion are filled in this work.

When you see Baudouin’s works, you can find out the portraits he made are not just about the people but also the interaction with surroundings and more details. All the decoration in the room and the objects spreading around the place are also a part of the portraits. What makes a person could be due to the things he/she has and the environment he/she stays.
When we look at Baudouin’s works, we start to observe and imagine the stories. They are beautiful portraits displaying various personalities; they are like huge database carrying information which allows us to know more about the subject.
In the series “75 Parisiennes”., he shot 75 females living in Paris in their apartments. The models are various from each other; both young and old: business women or housewives. The main idea is that
“I wanted to show the contemporary Parisian lady. Of course I shot few iconic ladies (like the cover) but I tried also to show ladies who could surprise us in other ways,” said Baudouin.

§How or by what did you get inspired to make” 75 Parisiennes” series?
“I wanted to do a long series about a person at home. I don’t find information in classical portrait. In a picture, I need to see information, such as decoration, clothes, details, colors…
It is easier to guess the personality of the model in his home. The Indoor space, home, is the best place for portrait. You have a lot of possibilities for composition like clothes and accessories.”

“The women of Paris were as timeless and perfect as the city itself
and I can almost hear their heels resonate on the pavement
when I look at pictures from that trip.”—Baudouin
§During the shooting, did anything interesting or frustrating happened? What’s your response?
I spent a lot of time to find interesting models. It has been almost 6 years that I went into apartments which I didn’t know before the shooting. I had both “good” surprises and “bad” surprises. I tried to find 75 different atmospheres and profiles. That’s why I shot 300 ladies and I selected only 75. Since I had a lot of works for magazines and advertising as well, I could only shot this series during my free time. That’s why it took me this long!
§Words for people viewing this series
The name of the book is “75 Parisiennes.” 75 is the total amount for the departments of Paris. It is the perfect number for this series!
