Once upon a time, in a dense bamboo forest, there lived a panda bear named Spot who had a peculiar taste in food. While all the other pandas feasted on bamboo, Spot could not stand its bland taste and texture. Instead, he had a deep affection for crunchy peanut butter that would linger in his mouth and give him pleasure for a very long time.

Day in and day out, Spot would sneak into nearby villages to look for his favorite food. His love for peanut butter grew so much that he could hardly think of anything else. Being a loner by nature, his special taste in food isolated him even more from his fellow bears. While they were discussing the refreshing effect of bamboo, he would lie on a branch, fantasizing about this special sweat and nutty scent that escapes a jar of peanut butter right after you open it.

One day, while sneaking into a village, Spot got caught by a little girl. Instead of being angry, the girl offered Spot some roasted peanuts coated in honey, and they sat together and ate. For the first time, Spot experienced the joy of sharing some yummy food with somebody else and therefore feeling a sense of togetherness and belonging.

Tied together by their passion for peanuts, the little girl introduced Spot to her parents and siblings, who were all amazed by the pandaā€™s love for peanut butter. They started leaving out jars of peanut butter for Spot to take back to the forest, and soon, other pandas began to notice Spotā€™s secret passion for the crunchy treat.

At first, they made fun of him, but once they got to know him better, they began to focus more on his endearing and funny personality. Spot realized that it was not his love for peanut butter that was the problem, but his insecurity about being different. He learned to love himself for who he was. That new-grown self-love and self-respect seemed to infect the pandas and villagers, who started to follow his example by embracing the differences of every living thing around them as a precious gift.

From that day forward, Spot was no longer afraid to be himself. He continued to enjoy his beloved peanut butter, but he also tried other foods and together with his new friends he explored different parts of the forest. He learned that being different was after all not a bad thing and that the love and acceptance of others could help him love himself too.

Spot continued to be a great fan of all sorts of treats formerly unknown to the taste buds of his species. The further he traveled to areas where other animals and people lived, the more he learned about exotic foods that went splendidly with his beloved peanut butter! In one tropical little town for instance he discovered a huge sweet juicy fruit called pineapple that served as the perfect base for a luscious spread of peanut butter! Or little pieces of coconut combined with the orange flesh of ripe papaya, topped with a splash of his favorite food. Not to mention those freshly made warm chocolate chip cookies with milk that are (do I really have to mention it?) simply irresistible with an extra layer of crunchy peanut butter!

In view of this deep devotion to creating new mouthwatering dishes, it might not surprise you that Spot, the panda, became widely known as the ā€˜Gourmet Bearā€™. Not just in his little forest, but far beyond, where he surprised old and new friends by always conjuring up fancy innovative treats, that were not only yummy but also healthy.

An interesting side effect of this development was, that as long as human beings and animals feasted together, there seemed no time or place for fights and arguments. Instead, they enjoyed together the simple pleasures that life had to offer, even if it was only a bite of pineapple covered in crunchy peanut butter. An observation that once more proves the following saying right: ā€œThe way to a manā€™s (AND TO A BEARā€™S;)) heart goes through his stomachā€.

The moral of the story is that being true to yourself and accepting your differences can bring about true happiness and acceptance from others. Or to express it in a well-known phrase, ā€œLove yourself, and the world will love you back.ā€ And if they donā€™t, it doesnā€™t really matter, because you will have yourself and this is, if you always follow your heart and passion, just like Spot, more than enough.
