Right from the moment Ali Abdul makes an entrance on the show, the first concern of audiences is — what is this brown man, doing in this show? Getting representation itself, was a big thing, but then the director and story-writer of the show — Hwang Dong-hyuk, was sensitive enough to include a character that otherwise Korean movies/shows would generally ignore.

Indians or South Asians particularly do not form a huge part of population in Korea anyway, and apart from being the large minority that they are, they’re also migrants, students or people who haven’t assimilated in the Korean culture yet.

But hats off to the casting director, who actually found this guy — Anupam Tripathi — who is an Indian originally, but plays the role of a Pakistani migrant who is living for work in Korea in with his wife and baby, while his family is back in Pakistan.
