Blessings in Disguise

You know how sometimes you laugh at victims of crises, chaos, and the like?
You’ll be like “Thank God I’m not one of them” or “We’re so lucky. Phew!” That’s because you’re so far away, and not at all affected.

Well guess what, I’m officially now a victim.

Cancelled Flight

My friends and I are scheduled to fly to Amsterdam for 4 days of holiday via Norwegian Air. I found out as of 12am today, our 7pm flight was cancelled. It was most probably due to pilots on-strike, which has been ongoing for the past 6 days.

The horror of waking up Friday morning, when your plan goes haywire. Imagine going to Arlanda airport and wanting to check in but the counter-lady replies, “Oh we regret to inform you that your flight has been cancelled. You may proceed to cancel your holiday and go home now”.
That didn’t happen to us of course (it better not).

After much scouring for alternatives (2000SEK to Amsterdam from Stockholm via commercial; are you insane?!) and deliberation (we could have flew to Copenhagen and transit again?), Norwegian Air has been kind (oh the irony, kind to customers but you cut Pilots wages?) by letting us change reservation of flight dates. Thus, we pushed back our holiday by 7 days. Mehh.

Impact

The point of this post, is that we have never experienced such a chaos, and the impact has been both financial and emotional; we were so ready for Amsterdam plus taking leave from our respective companies (but our AirBnB host now is demanding we still pay our dues like asdfghjk!?! Let me sort him out).
We could have see this coming, since NA cancelled flights within Scandinavia on Wednesday, so that was definitely a foretelling sign; a significant warning which none of us could see coming.

Blessing

Nonetheless, there are some blessing in disguise with this cancellation.

  1. I have a report due 11th March, which I have yet to do.
  2. Game of Thrones exhibition in Kungstradgarden from 7th to 11th March (You don’t want to miss this if you’re a big fan!)
  3. Manchester United plays Arsenal in a FA Cup Quarter-Final, Monday evening
  4. I ordered an European GoPro due to arrive this weekend

At least my weekend won’t be too bad. Nonetheless, just be careful in the future. You wouldn’t know who will have the last laugh.

Or just don’t laugh at others.
