When you want to drive four or five hundred miles an hour there are only a few places you can do it. Bonneville is one of them. I’ve been lucky enough to go there a few times and take pictures of the life that springs up on the flat white salt. This is a story about that but also how this video came to be and why I decided it was time for it to be seen again.

In 2020, early in the Covid lockdown, Claudia James Bartlett called me with an opportunity, asking if I wanted to create an installation for a virtual version of Photo L.A. Without thinking, I made her a rash offer, that I would make five videos for the digital walls. And when she questioned if that was feasible given the schedule, (I think what she asked was the polite version of “Are you nuts?”) I told her I could get it done “No problem”. The only problem was that the videos didn’t exist and the show was five weeks away. What the hell was I thinking?

Luckily friends and strangers jumped in to help. When I called Svetlana Cvetko to ask if she would direct me reading one of the stories she said “Andy, why don’t I do all of them and bring David, (her husband) to record the sound?” Old friend Moe Shore agreed to edit two of the videos, David Lebrun took on another, and Steve…
